Scrapbookmania

I made a colored version of one of the lastly presented characters. It’s my second real digital artwork. The idea for this character was mixture of inspiration. First I dreamed of a guy who got a tattoo of a sun on his forehead. Second was a video on youtube, where I’ve seen a guy playing with his self-made flaming gadget. I think he called it prometheus device. And the third part for the idea was my actual passion for steampunk…

And as it isn’t enough, here is a new selection of some sketches from my scrapbook. I decided just to take those, which are good enough to me. Hope you like them too…

Animal Music

Here comes the band. No they are not the Bremen Town Musicians. They are just a set of characters playing different instruments, drawn with traditional tools. So enjoy the pix…

Baroque Shirts Part 2

A friend of mine bought my BaRock T-shirt from spreadshirt, which I described in one of the latest articles. And as you can see she is as happy as I am. A cool fact I didn’t knew about Spreadshirt, is that they sell high quality shirts out of fair trade. This is a good justification for those prices, I think.

Thanks for the images, Ulrike… :)

A Sketch a day keeps the boredom away

First of all, I wish anyone of my readers a Happy New Year. I hope you got off a good start, as I did. But lets come to the point. I’m happy to report, that I drew every day minimum one sketch since two month. And I’ll keep it up. So here are now coming a few of my latest sketches, as promised in “Announcements“.

The first gallery is about Fantasy. Most of the sketches in this gallery has a context… Hmm, what about a little quiz? That one, who guesses the most contexts, wins an original sketch of mine. Just write me your ideas. In a few weeks I’ll publish the resolution. If you didn’t already noticed, you can enlarge a selected image, if you click the link below the gallery. And you can save the enlarged image like any else by right-clicking it. So maybe you can find out some hints…

A new of my favorite kind of arts is steampunk. It’s really cool to imagine a crazy kind of gadget, which is some kind of low-tech, but incredibly impressive. Well I don’t know if my sketches hit the bullseye, but I hope the next gallery entertain you.

And the last gallery has no real theme. Most of it were drawn because I didn’t had the right idea. So I doodled some characters, drew what I saw or made some kind of comic.

Well I think I have to say, the Fantasy Gallery Quiz is held without legal prejudice.

Baroque Shirts

Being unemployed doesn’t mean to be unoccupied. The only difference is the lack of money. So I got me an account at spreadshirt. It’s one of those platforms where you can create T-shirts with your on motifs. All you have to do is to upload your image as a vector- or pixel file. If you’re lucky and people buy it, you can earn a selfdefined commision per sold shirt. And it’s a very good way for designers to bandy their ideas about.

The first motif which I uploaded, is about J.S. Bach. His immortal music is still one of the most played in the world. But not only classical musicians play it. One of the last quotations is Tenacious D’s Song Tribute, which proved the Rock compatibility to Baroque music. Wouldn’t it be cool if Bach would have rocked his harpsichord like Jack Black…

As you can see in the gallery, the motif went a long production process. In order to be plott printed I couldn’t use pixel images. So I had to go the long and stony way. As it was my first T-shirt I had to deal with the printing techniques. And there were a lot of problems I didn’t even imagined before. Reading the spreadshirt FAQ revealed a few secrets. Thereby I learned that any vectore object has to be a closed path, has to have a size of at least 1.5cm (0.6in) and a minimum distance to other objects of 1cm (0.4in). But knowing that didn’t prevented me from the annoying revision process with the spreadshirt design team. My motif was rejected for 4 times before I could create any T-shirt with it, which is a good measurement of the quality assurance spreadshirt provides. The main problem was my approach of drawing it first as a pixel picture. So I had to review every single path point, after the automated tracing. Drawing it by hand and controlling it straightaway would have saved me a lot of time. But next time I’m going to be smarter. By the way one great trick to do smaller distances between objects is to use two different color layers. You have to know that any color has to be printed separately onto the fabric and for any color the plotter will cut out a separate printing foil. And the distance restrictions are only meant for one color layer. So that you can design your object distances smaller than 1 cm, but only for different colors. If there are still questions to you how they print the shirts, I recommend you to watch this video. It was a major help to me…

But enough of the ramblings. Here is my BaRock T-Shirt on the spreadshirt market. Just click it and buy it. I wanna see you in this shirt…
:D

Chrismas Season

Anybody knows finding a good present for somebody, who’s got anything he needs, isn’t easy. So what to give? A book like every year? Some kind of device, that’ll be used just once a time? That’s not what a person deserves, who means something to anybody. Giving something self-made is always an option. But I think it should be special too. My parents are persons who fit the discription. A few years ago they made the decision to rusticate and bought a lovely house in the woods. It was a major change in they’re lifes and they never regreted it. Based on that knowlegde I painted a digital picture of the house.

Drawing with the grafic tablet is still something new to me. Thus I needed nearly two workingdays to complete it. Especially because it’s intended for a 60×40 cm poster format. Most time consuming was the right Lighting and I’m still not satisfied at all. But I’ll leave it that way and call it done.

By the way I wish you all a Merry Christmas and some nice holidays. :)

Announcements

The Bolivian Space Admisnistration reports a meteorite shower heading directly towards us. It’s largest boulder is about 200px in diameter and would have an impact of 1024×768px on your desktop, if you click on it. But don’t panic, it was just a test of my new Aiptek Media Tablet 10000u and some cool software brushes.

As an unemployed graphic artist I am using my time to train my skills. Especially sketching and speedpainting is my new old passion. The next time I run into a scanner, I’ll update some new doodles I did. Be prepared there will come some cool stuff.

But this is not all I have to say. As you certainly noticed, I am writing in English from now on. The reason for this is to address a wider audience. And my existing German audience is probably able to read this language. I hope to get more nonspam comments in future and some little critiques would make me glad.
So don’t be shy, I don’t bite. :D

And now to something completely different. Searching for some reference pictures I found this cool site. It’s a sparing of word blog about modded technology and anyhing else. Yeah I know, this sound not very invitational. But there are some very funny gadgets collected, like a NES Controller doorbell, a casemodded cooker PC or a steampunked cell phone. If you like crazy ideas, this just can be recommended.

CC an… CC aus…)
